Wellness Integration Part 2

Fresh flowers bring a sense of peace and health to my living space. Bonus if I’ve grown them myself

Hi Gardening and Wellness Friends 👋🏼

Last week I shared how my health journey began. I left off in 2017 when I stopped seeing the functional medicine doctor because he believed soy was appropriate to ingest. I remember how frustrated I was, and I vividly remember my husband telling me he knew I’d find answers.

During that same year we raised our first flock of egg chickens, ducks and meat chickens. It was the beginning of our homestead journey.

Back to finding a doctor….I scanned the internet typing in different combinations of words trying to find someone to help me. I went to an acupuncturist and found a little relief and then I found a business locally. The Garcia Institute of Modern Excellence (who is now Healing with Excellence). I called, made an appointment and met with Kim. It was the first time I felt like there was hope. There were answers to my symptoms.

Within 2 months of seeing Kim, my husband was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer that had metastasized to his liver and lungs. My health was put on hold for the next 6 years while we focused on his health with the guidance of Kim.

I believe in the power of food. I poured my energy into the farm. Growing vegetables, proteins and milk products organically the way God intended. I removed as many chemicals from our every day life and focused on nourishing our bodies the best I knew how. Kim continued to be an integral part of my husbands health journey. He sustained his health with a combination of holistic and allopathic methods that allowed him the freedom to work until a few weeks before the end of his life. His life ended in 2023 because of a negative reaction to a clinical trial of a chemotherapy medication that killed his liver. It wasn’t the cancer that took his life.

At the end of 2023 I decided I wanted to do what I love and I started Healing Roots Gardens to help people create and maintain their vegetable gardens. Then, in 2024 I decided it was time to focus on my health and I began investing in certifications through Healing With Excellence. I’ve learned so much about the human body and how resillient it is.

This has led me to integrating my love of creating and teaching about gardens with facilitating wellness in the body, all while focusing on my own health in 2025. I have the food and chemical parts down, but I’m really focusing this year on my emotional health and staying in a space of gratitude. I look forward to the continued blessings that come my way while living my healthiest life.

Until next time…..

🌿To our health and the health of our gardens🌿
