Another personal experience with Neuromuscular Restoration
Hi Gardening and Wellness Friends 👋🏼
The last several weeks I’ve focused on the gardening cohort. It’s been quite some time since I shared about Neuromuscular Restoration, and I want to give you another example of what this modality can correct. There’s several layers to this personal case, so bare with me as I walk through it.
Back in April I began feeling what I believed to be a urinary tract infection. I’d only had one other experience with a uti 20 years ago. At that time I treated it on my own by over hydrating and drinking cranberry juice. Within 3 days it was gone. So, when I began feeling this burning sensation and urge to urinate so frequently I began hydrating and drinking cranberry juice. I did this for about a week, but I wasn’t feeling relief. In fact, the pain was getting worse. In addition to the burning and frequent urination I began experiencing pain in my bladder. I added an anti-inflammatory and received temporary relief. This went on for another week. So, we’re at 2 weeks since I began feeling this pain, with no relief other than when I took an anti-inflammatory.
I cried for several days before making my next decision. It wasn’t made lightly. At the time I was in Egypt. At their pharmacies you tell the pharmacist what is wrong, and they give you an antibiotic. I hadn’t taken an antibiotic since I was a young adult. We’re talking 25+ years. I was so proud of myself for allowing illnesses to run its course to allow my body to heal naturally. The thought of taking an antibiotic and killing all of my good bacteria weighed heavy on me. After 3 days of ruminating, I realized I was causing myself more suffering by not making a decision. I chose to get an antibiotic. I told the pharmacist my background of not taking antibiotics and that I wanted the lowest dose for this infection. He said I should start feeling relief with 48 hours. 48 hours came and went, and I still wasn’t feeling relief without the anti-inflammatory. I completed the round without relief. I went back to the pharmacist and received a different/higher dose. Again, he said within 48 hours I should feel relief. By the end of this course of antibiotics I was 1 month since the onset of pain and the pain had not reduced. I was beside myself. My challenge was being in Egypt. I called my mentor, and we set up a virtual Neuromuscular Restoration muscle test. I had already weeks prior attempted to do a muscle test by myself with the help of a friend, but I was unsuccessful. Our language was a barrier, and it was difficult for my friend to understand what I was asking him to do.
In these moments, I’m so grateful for technology and the ability to find solutions through Zoom, Chat, Facetime, and Video. The muscle testing with my mentor and a translator was done virtually, and my friend was able to complete the testing on me. We were successful and found my pelvic floor muscle was compensating for my glute.
What does this mean?
This means every time my glute was being utilized (think about how often we use our glutes….any time we walk), my brain was sending a message to my pelvic floor to work instead of my glute. My pelvic floor was contracting, not allowing urine to flow freely from my bladder, thus inhibiting a full emptying of my bladder. Even though I took the antibiotics, if the bladder wasn’t fully emptied each time, it allowed bacteria to proliferate.
We corrected the communication and redirected the energy from my pelvic floor back to my glute with a simple exercise. I completed this exercise twice a day for 2 weeks. Within 2 days I felt a huge relief. I’d say 75% better. The pain decreased, I had less burning and pressure on my bladder and felt my bladder was fully emptying each time. I stopped taking the anti-inflammatory after the 3rd day. After my 2 weeks of the exercise, I was no longer feeling any pain. I was 100% pain free.
My biggest regret was not using my resources sooner. Had I reached out to a Neuromuscular Restoration Specialist sooner I would have saved myself from taking the antibiotics. I would have saved the weeks of taking an anti-inflammatory. I would have saved myself from weeks of pain.
I share this to give you an example of how miraculous the human body is when we can pinpoint communication dysfunctions. I also share as a reminder to use your resources. If you haven’t found answers to pains within your body, I promise there are answers. We just have to know where to look to find the solutions.

Until next time…..
