What to do and what to plant in May 2025
Hi Gardening and Wellness Friends 👋🏼
May is warming up towards summer here in Florida. The temperature is consistently in the 80’s during the day and creeping more towards the 90’s this month. With these temperatures the bugs become consistently active. As long as you planted flowers within your beds, those beneficial insects will be drawn in to help control the bugs. This month rain will fall more than the past few months. Soon, we will get into our summer shower routine. For now, continue your irrigation every other day for an hour. As the summer rains become consistent and you monitor how your garden is responding, you can then change the irrigation setting to maybe every 3rd day.
For now, here’s what you can do:
weed and remove any leftover winter plants from your garden beds
test your irrigation system and ensure it’s functioning properly. Make any necessary changes to the settings
amend the soil if you’re planting heavy feeders such as peppers, squash, luffa or eggplant
add a layer of compost to your beds if planting new plants
pickup your organic plant starts from The Organic Harvest
plant a combination of vegetables, herbs and flowers
monitor any pest/insect pressure. You can handpick any pests and dunk into a soapy bucket of water, or you can use any of these organic products as needed https://amzn.to/4cUNEmV
