What to do and what to plant in December 2025
Hi Gardening and Wellness Friends 👋🏼
It’s been a great start to our Florida Winter Gardening Cohort. We’ve been able to get all of the beds weeded, amended and planted. We’re learning strategies for how to plant seeds and transplanted plants, learning benefits and uses for companion planting, learning about the beneficial insects and how to attract them, learning how to feed the soil and we’re learning how to protect our beds when the cooler weather comes. It’s been a great journey this first month together.
With the holiday’s it does get busy and the gardens take a back seat this time of year. Gratefully, I’ve set up systems for the gardeners so there is very little hands on needs this season once the beds have been prepped and planted. A quick check once a week for pests and to ensure irrigation is working properly. There should be smooth sailing until harvest it’s time to harvest…..unless we get an early frost, then there will be a little more physical labor involved to protect the garden.
If you need a small break from the holiday’s this month and you’ll be retreating to your garden for peace and quiet, here’s maintenance that can be completed this month:
weed and remove any leftover plants from the garden beds that have completed their fruiting cycle
test the irrigation system and ensure it’s functioning properly. we’re in our dry season, and we’ll need to use more consistent irrigation the next few months
amend the soil if planting heavy feeders such as broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower (tomatoes, peppers and eggplants if you have plants left from Fall OR if you’re in S. FL)
order organic plant starts from The Organic Harvest
replant a new set of flowers for the winter garden. the best this time of year are pansies, violas, alyssum and calendula
add new herbs to the beds-all herbs thrive in the cooler weather
monitor any pest/insect pressure. pressure should begin reducing with the cooler weather
plant and seed any empty garden spaces
It’s a season to give generously and selflessly to family and friends, but I pray this holiday season you find pockets of time to nourish and spoil yourself. You are deserving and worthy of it.
If you have questions, message through social media or email. I’m happy to support your garden and your body.
Until next time…..
🌿To our health and the health of our gardens🌿
